Week 10 January 16th, 2012

Hello everyone!

Things are going great here in Chile.  I can't believe that I am already done with an entire month here.  Actually today is exactly 2 months since I went into the MTC.

As far as the work here, sometimes it is a little hard.   There should be a baptism this week assuming that things work out the way they should and nothing crazy happens.  His name is Marcelo.  He is only 9 years old and is the son of a recent convert.  That family is pretty crazy... and awesome.  They live in really humble conditions, but they are awesome people.  One of the weird things here in Chile is that even though most of the houses here are really small and often quite empty, just about every house has a pretty nice computer and TV.  It is pretty weird to walk into a house that has just about nothing and then see a pretty nice computer.  One of the other different things about Chile is that essentials are pretty cheap.  Especially food.  For example, you can get a ton of freshly baked bread for about a $1.  Or like this last week, I went to buy some fruit at a feria, which is where people go to sell food outside in the street.  When I was there, I bought about a pound of cherries and a pound of strawberries for about $1.75 or so total.  It's pretty awesome to go and just buy some fresh fruit because there is just so much to choose from- everything from lemons and peaches to watermelons and cherries.  It is pretty sweet (I guess that ended up being an unintentional pun).

But anyway, back to the investigator.  The family is awesome.  It is a single mother who has 4 children ranging from 11 years old to a little over 1.  And she is only 27, I believe.  The house is usually pretty chaotic, but that just makes things more exciting.  Sometimes it is a little hard to teach there, but somehow she has learned to be able to focus even when all of her kids are going crazy.

Otherwise things are going well here.  The picture that I sent last week was of a plaza here.  That is a really big plaza, but there are also a lot of smaller ones all over the place here.

A couple of days ago there was almost rain!  (Which means that it still hasn't rained at all yet.)  But the cool thing was that you could see lightning.  Apparently, there aren't very many thunderstorms here.  Like ever.  So that was neat.

Also we do have a washing machine.  But it doesn't work very well.  I shouldn't complain though, at least we have one.  But I also sleep in the bottom bunk by the window because of the breeze which makes it cooler.  It's nice being on the fourth floor because it means that we can always have the windows open so it gets really cool.

Oh another thing, I don't know if I already told you this, but I am like the designated pianist for the ward.  And perhaps every ward that I'll ever go to if they have a piano.  But one cool thing is that I'm teaching piano lessons here to the people.  It's pretty awesome.  It even might help to reactivate some families or bring investigators.

I hope all goes well back there.  And good luck with everything back home!
