April 2, 2012

Things are awesome in Chile!  First of all General Conference was awesome this past weekend.  We were able to bring a lot of investigators here to watch it which was great.  There were pretty many people there because all of 2 stakes met together in our building.  (Did I ever say how much I enjoy living here right by the stake center?)  It was really great.  We watched 2 sessions in Spanish and 3 in English.  It isn't quite the same in Spanish even though it is still really good.  It's just different not being able to listen to the real voices of the prophet and apostles.  Either way it was still great, because it meant that we were able to sit next to our investigators as they were able to listen to the words of those inspired leaders.

So as far is Chile is going, this past Thursday was apparently a dangerous day called "el día del joven combatiente."  Apparently there are a lot of young people who go into the streets and just fight against the police because of something that happened a long time ago here when police killed a protestor or something.  Either way, we had to go home early and be in our house by 6 PM, which is super early, and pretty sad because it means we couldn't really work all that much.  However, at least it can help you guys know that they keep us safe here.

With the earthquake things, they were really just small movements.  There was really no damage at all here where I live.  These things just happen frequently as like a thunderstorm back home.  The ground just starts to shake for a while and then it stops.  They aren't even considered earthquakes here.  It has to reach 7.5 on the Richter scale here for it to be an earthquake.

So as far as missionary work is going here, we have an absolutely amazing investigator we are teaching right now.  Her name is Roxana, and she is 19 years old.  She is super excited for the opportunity to get baptized and will be baptized on the 15th of April. She will be the first person that I will physically baptize, so I am really excited :)  Her mother and sisters were baptized about 12 years ago, but she was too young to be baptized then.  Now the rest of her family is inactive, but she still has really strong desires to go to church and follow Christ.  I can't wait to be able to send that picture in a few weeks!

I still love it here, and will hopefully be able to help a lot of people to be able to follow Christ and draw nearer to Him.  Even more than Chile, I love this Gospel and the joy that I have been able to see it bring to the lives of so many people here.  I have no doubt in my mind that this Church is true and is led by Jesus Christ himself.  If it was not, none of these things could ever be possible.  That I know.

Have a great week, and I'll talk to you later.
