Things are going really well
here. I am finally getting used to my new sector here. Just so you
know, we live on Gran Avenida 13248 in the really tall towers. The view
is great. You can see the center of Santiago from our apartment. So
the limits of our ward are ...
Card Jose María Caro on the North until it meets
Leon XIII then south to Lo Moreno then east to Pedro de Mendoza, then
South to Lo Blanco then East to Diego de Sevilla, south to Santa Marta,
West to Francisco de Camargo, North to Calderon de la Barca, East until
it changes into Mexico, then to the train tracks on the west and north
to Volcan Osorno.
So I realized that was a bit complicated, but that's
just how it works now. The sector is bigger than my last one I
believe, but not by a whole lot. The hard thing is there are a LOT of
inactive members :( Like I think our ward has about 1000 members and
about 50 go to church each week. It's pretty sad. But the ward is
really nice. We will just have to work a lot to help strengthen it.
So some sad news here. Someone in our apartment
tower, also on the 17th floor, jumped out of their window this past week
and committed suicide, landing on and destroying a car in the parking
lot below. It was pretty sad to hear about and people ask us about it a
lot. One thing a little more light-hearted, last night we were inside a
cloud because we are so high up... it was pretty neat.
Oh also, we didn't have any electricity my first
night because apparently the missionaries before didn't pay a bill or
something so it got cut. So we got to spend the first night by candle
light. It was actually kind of fun. Until we realized the next morning
that the water heater in our apartment doesn't work without
electricity, so we had to take cold showers. It was WAY fun.
There was another weak earthquake this week. But
guess what... I didn't even wake up. All of the other missionaries did,
but I just went on sleeping. The good thing is these towers are new
and anti-seismic so I think I should be pretty safe. I was disappointed
to miss it though.
This week at church was a bit hard. We had planned
on having a lot of investigators at church... like up to 10 or so. But
unfortunuately no one came. It was hard, but the meetings were still
good. I got to play piano at church on a real grand piano. That was
pretty neat even though it's not really the best one in the world. I
think it's the only opportunity I will probably ever have to play a
grand piano here.
Also, I attached a photo of the new missionaries in
our mission.
One thing that has been really neat is we have a lot
of great investigators that we are teaching. I really look forward to
talking with them and helping them to learn and progress. One
investigator that is really exciting is someone who has been studying to
become a Catholic priest since he was 14 I believe. He is really
intelligent and he finds that the things that we share with him really
make sense to him and he is really accepting. He still has some
concerns, but it is really nice to talk with him.
Well, that is about all of the excitement for this
past week. I hope that you all have a great week and I will talk to you
later!!!
Elder Estolenuerk (That's how I have
to try to tell people so that that can pronounce it; sometimes we just
leave it at Estolen though haha)
¡¡¡¡CHAO!!!!
